Scientometrics is a field of knowledge that investigates the characteristics of scientific information and studies, evaluates and compares the scientific products of countries, organizations and individuals based on valid international data. In scientology, statistical methods are used to determine the growth and development criteria of science and its effects in different human societies. In general, scientometrics can be considered the knowledge of calculation and analysis of science. The conducted studies show the significant growth of Iran's scientific productions in recent years, especially in the field of medical sciences.

Isfahan University of Medical Sciences' Scientometrics Department, as the country's first Scientometric Institution in the field of medical sciences, started working in October 2005 in the area of the Vice-Chancellor of Research and Technology of the University. This department is under the supervision of the management of information, medical scientology and scientific resources, through continuous review and evaluation of the scientific productions of the university, research centers and other subordinate units and designing the necessary interventions in line with the policy of quantitative and qualitative promotion of scientific productions and raising the status The science of the university and the country will take steps.
